February 2015 Newsletter

Hello and a somewhat late welcome to 2015 from all at the Busters Dogs team! We have a few items of news and upcoming events for you to look through, I hope there is something there for everyone.

In this issue:

Linda's upcoming leave

I (Linda) have booked a short holiday in March, and will be away from 19th to 24th March. I will also be visiting Crufts on 6th of March. We will still be able to provide daycare – our dog walkers will collect and return your dogs, and Jacob will be taking care of them at home. If you would prefer to swap to dog walks for those dates please let us know. Dog walking will be going ahead as usual.

News from the Team

December was a month of ups and downs for us, which is one reason why this newsletter is coming out so late. Unfortunately two of our vehicles were hit by other cars in the week before Christmas (neither were our fault and did not involve any dogs – my car was parked and empty!) and this has taken some sorting out. Both have been repaired, but one has been replaced with a newer model as I just didn't want to use it for your dogs after it had been through an accident. This means we have a van for sale! Scroll down to check out the details.

So that’s the bad, the good news is we welcomed a new member of our dog walking team – so please give a warm welcome to Jenny! We used to walk Jenny’s dogs for her, and we’re very pleased that she has joined us to help walk all your dogs. This does mean we have some space for new dogs on our very busy Brentwood walk – there is usually a waiting list for the lunchtime slot in Brentwood, so please feel free to let your friends and relatives know we have space if they need their dogs walked. Unlike a lot of the other dog walkers in Brentwood, we only take out 4 dogs per walk, and often less, and we do the full hour. I have seen other dog walkers taking out large numbers of dogs, and frequently they arrive after us, and leave before us. You can trust we are giving you the full service you are paying for.

Home Boarding and Residential Training

Other news is that I restarted home boarding in January – for small breed dogs only (we are able to take 'medium' sizes if we are already walking your dog). Beauty is still with us and doing very well, but her legs aren’t what they used to be, and she needs a bit more peace and quiet in her old age.

Little Legs Small Dog Club

I have split my boarding and walking business into two ‘sister’ companies – one purely for the dog walking, and one for the home boarding and training. So don’t be surprised if you get a new registration form for boarding this year if you do want us to board your dog again. Our separate website for boarding is now www.littlelegssmalldogclub.co.uk, and has a separate Facebook page.

We are also now able to offer a new kind of training for small breeds while your dog boards with us (there is an additional cost for training). As an experienced dog trainer, I can train your dog in the behaviour you want at a much faster rate than you can – then all you have to learn is how to keep the good behaviour going, and build on it over time. Relationship is very important in training, so living with us while they learn is extremely beneficial. Dog training is not something happens overnight, or even on a two week training holiday, but is an ongoing process between you and your dog. Having an experienced trainer kick-start this process speeds this up considerably, and makes things a lot easier for you. We specialise in recall in particular.

Please contact us for more information on how it works.

Upcoming events

All About Dogs

At the Robin Hood Game and Country Show, Bank Holiday weekend 3rd/4th May.

I will be not only be having a stand at the show, but will also be hosting a 'Have a Go' ring to do some clicker training fun tricks and games to play with your puppy as well as offering general puppy training advice, so please do come along and see me. If there isn't a queue of puppies waiting, I may be able to sneak in an older dog or two. ;) Just don't tell anyone!

Dog training workshops: Recall Training

Our Ready Steady Recall training workshop has been the most popular workshop we’ve run for nearly 3 years. We have now stopped taking bookings for this workshop, as we have launched a new type of recall training – we’ve dubbed it ‘Many Happy Returns’.

It is now a longer session, so it has been split into 3 sessions of 2-2½ hours each. Our first group workshop will be in April over consecutive Sundays starting at 1pm – to avoid Easter we’ve booked 12th, 19th, 26th April. It will be held in Ardleigh, near Colchester in Essex, as we have an indoor hall as well as the outside paddock so we can keep going even if the weather is wet. Please contact me for an information pack if you are interested. Later in the year I hope to do an all day workshop, so please keep your eye on my Facebook page of events.

We have a special price for this workshop – usually it will be £84 for all three sessions, for April only we are offering all three sessions for £72, so book now, as we only have very limited spaces on this workshop. Spectators are welcome, £20 for all three sessions, which includes the handout information sheets as well.

Other Training

I will still do all the other workshops – if you are interested please let me know as I will be able to add another workshop to the dates above if needed (at the same venue), or set something up at our old private field in Kelvedon Hatch. The other workshops we do are No Jumping Up, Stop Pulling on the Lead and Tearaway Terrier Training. If I get enough interest in any of these, I will arrange a session in the morning of one of the Recall Training Days, please let me know if you are interested. You are welcome to do one session in the morning, take a break for a packed lunch and your dog to have a break, then do the recall training.

Professional Dog Walker training

Practical Dog Walker Training – we have a group practical day booked on 11th March, with only one space left. You will join myself with our dog walkers to observe how we manage our groups, organise our transport, as well as getting hands on with the dogs. We will go over body anguage and canine communication as well as lots more.

The accompanying business training for professional dog walkers group day is on 25th April, we have space for 4-6 people. Both are held in Brentwood in Essex.

New for 2015 we are going ‘on the road’! Our business skills day is in the planning stages for 7th June in Lymm near Manchester.

More details to follow, but please ask for an information pack for any of the above dates if you are interested. First to send back registration forms with the fees get the places, and only one space left on the practical day in March. Both the group days are available as a one to one day, either separately, or they can be combined – also available are telephone consults.

Peugeot Expert Van for Sale

Now to the exciting van for sale! It is a 2002 Peugeot Expert van. Fully plylined, MOT until August, it was serviced last Autumn. It went straight through the MOT with only an advisory for a tyre, which we replaced. Some cosmetic issues such as the heater can be a little temperamental, but it is a very reliable van. All the signwriting has been removed. The tax ran out at the end of January, so it is now on a SORN. As we have replaced it already, we are looking for £750 for a quick sale. It is in Brentwood and is available during the day for viewing (work commitments allowing). I can send photos if required.
